I thought about this figure a lot in my head before working my way to my sketchbook. A being with starry skin, other worldly but familiar still, overgrown hair reflective of the night sky, feeling untethered but hands firmly to the ground as if trying to grasp stability. As the 'artist' my interpretation of my own work is obviously just a projection of what I hoped to express, and my hope was to make the figure feel curious but wary of this vast and unfamiliar place. Thinking about my own experiences, I don't think I've ever been to a place overgrown and untamed, spreading beyond my sight, untouched by the human hand; and I wonder what it would be like to experience a place like that. I wonder what it would be like to be in a place so quiet but full of life, and I yearn for that feeling. If I succeeded in capturing that feeling is probably none of my business. 4/4/24
